Throughout Irwin Hogenauer's life (1912-1984), he initiated, organized, and participated in peace and civil rights demonstrations and civil disobedience projects. The Seattle Draft Counseling Center was formed as a non-profit agency in 1969 to provide draft, military, and alternate service counseling. It was in operation until at least 1982. Irwin R. Hogenauer, a vocal opponent of war and violence, was a conscientious objector during World War II and was sentenced to two years in a CO camp.
